On the weekend of April 8th - 10th my wife Karla and I drove to the Benson Ranch to start an Aoudad hunt that I had been talking to Ryan about for several months. We drove to the ranch from Houston arriving at the lodge around 10 AM Friday morning and we were met by Brant O'Day our guide for the weekend.

We followed Brant to the lodge to sign our release paper work and helped us get our luggage to the room (great accommodations) and my rifle and bow over to the armory for safe keeping. I have hunted many places but just the fact that your weapons are stored and safe away from the confines of your sleeping quarters gives you the sense of safety knowing that there can be no loaded weapons around you during your stay.

I wanted to try and take a large Aoudad with my bow so Brant set up the bow target to allow me to test the sighting just in case it had been moved during the trip to the ranch. The bow was still on at all yardages so we took the rifle (a backup in case we had to glass and stalk the aoudad from a distance) to the range and make sure it was still on. Well I fired one shot 3" high and 2" to the left, I made the adjustment fired again and it was dead on, I am glad Brant (and Benson Ranch requires shooting before the hunt our trip to the ranch must have caused some movement).

Karla and I had wonderful meals cooked by Charmaigne and we had the ranch to ourselves. We were pampered the entire weekend. Ryan made stops by several times to check on us and we had some great conversations we really felt at home.

The wind was so high and the aoudads were not moving so under these conditions I switched from my bow to glassing and stalking. Brant, Karla and I went to the top of one of the hills and found a really nice aoudad in a herd and we settled down to wait for a clear shot.

As you can see from the photo the aoudad was a great trophy and the entire trip was a great weekend they my wife and I got to enjoy the beautiful country side and see lots of wildlife together.

If you want to hunt and have an experience that you can share with a loved one, and build a memory that will last a life time contact Ryan and experience for yourself an adventure you will cherish.
