Benson Farm and Ranch: Certified Angus Cattle
Benson Farm and Ranch started raising registered Black Angus cattle in the fall of 1984 when we purchased one bull and nine bred cows. We continued to purchase ten to fifteen head of cattle each year for about five years, and since then only a bull or two or a few cows from time to time.
Since the beginning, we've kept records of every calf's birth, wean, and yearling weights and we've also measured each calf's hip height and pelvic area.
In the past 20 years, we've produced a fairly uniform herd. We value average birth weights for easier births and above average weight gains. Our breeding program has produced more than a half dozen pathfinder cows, and outstanding bulls as well.
In the future we hope to continue improving our herd through use of AAA performance pedigree records and eye appeal.
Benson Farm and Ranch has been recognized over the years as a top breeder in Registered Angus Cattle Production. The American Angus Association a National membership group represents 35,000 members out of those members there are millions on Angus cattle to choose from. In 2003 Benson Farm and Ranch was recognized for having two Pathfinder cattle out of 34,000 members and a bunch of cattle only 1,971 cattle were chosen.
Benson Farm and Ranch has been in the National spot light again in 2004 with another Pathfinder cow chosen from 34,000 members of the Angus Association, only 2,099 cattle were chosen. The Pathfinder Report identifies superior Angus cows based upon recorded performance traits that are economically important to efficient beef production. These traits include early and regular calving and heavy weaning weights.
